Five (5) Pillars of Knowledge Worker Management

Over the past two decades I have been part of quite a number of efforts and initiatives to improve planning of different types of knowledge workers; engineers, developers and management/administrative staff.  I think all of them led to improvements and better personnel utilization, but some more than others, and quite a few took much more time than we expected.  In the latter case we ran into problems, solved them and moved on to fix the next problem and perhaps the next one.  But if we had a better understanding of what needed to be fixed from day one, we could have addressed them all head on from start, and reduced time to value significantly.

With this insight in mind we have undertaken an exercise in Promineo to identify what really needs to be in place for a successful implementation of a process improvement program or new software for planning of knowledge workers.  Part of this has always been included in our implementation approach for the Promineo software, but in response to customer requests we now offer this as a stand-alone study.

We have identified 5 pillars that successful planning of knowledge workers’ rests on, and we have developed a methodology to evaluate and rate how a company is performing:
